I love EVERYTHING about making books and book-related items! I’ve had the best time creating small books, tiny books, junk journals, book marks, ephemera like hidden paper clips, fun envelopes and tag projects! In a couple of weeks I’m doing an online book challenge created by Ali Manning at Vintage Page Designs. It will be a Coptic Stitch Gratitude Journal and I’m so excited to participate!

So, how do ribbons come into play? Well – so glad you asked! Ribbons are used extensively in all sorts of paper arts. For book-related items, they can be the topper of a book mark, elements for ephemera, ways to decorate junk journal pages, closures for books of all kinds, etc.

Ribbons come in all types, sizes, patterns – from paper to cloth to metal to plastic – to you name it. I love using silk sari ribbon as well as rayon and cotton. One of my favorites lately has been hand dyed crinkle ribbon. This is so fun and versatile to use in creating paper items! It is very soft and adds such terrific texture and color to a project!

I purchased my first crinkle ribbon on Etsy and you can find loads of vendors and color options there. Be sure to check the length if purchasing as these vary widely by vendor. After playing around a bit, I decided to start making my own. And I am SO GLAD I did! I can now make the color(s) I want in the lengths I need. There are tutorials online for making the ribbon, and I’m going to add my own little video to my next post. My process is super easy and loads of fun. A great project to do with friends and/or kids!

I’ll be selling three-yard increments of my hand dyed ribbon at the Christmas Craft Show in Flower Mound in mid-October. I may sell some online after the show as well.
