Each pet portrait is hand-drawn by me! I use a stylus and both a tablet and computer, each with flexible and powerful art software. Once I receive your completed questionnaire, I will reach out to discuss with you how to upload photos of your pet, what you can expect whether you want to order only a digital file or both digital and printed images, timing, payment, etc. We will discuss those traits that make your sweet pet unique. Sometimes it is their eyes or coloring. Sometimes they have a beloved toy they carry everywhere. Sometimes it is the way they sit and/or lay down. I refine my vision of your pet through these materials and if I have questions as I draw, I will reach out by email. Once I begin working on the portrait, every detail is drawn with the goal of capturing that special “something” about your pet.
MORE THAN A PHOTOGRAPH
The output of the digital drawing is not a “reproduction” of your photo(s). Each drawing is conceived from the materials you have provided, but created in a style that is neither “photographic realism” nor a simplified “flat block color image”. While both of those are wonderful styles, my own is unique and I believe it makes it clear to viewers that their pet is loved and cherished.
WHAT YOU GET
The primary physical object you receive is a completed digital image file. This image is high resolution and has a transparent background so that it can be used for printing and you will download it from a link provided. It can be sized up and down (with limitations on each end of the scale). This makes it easy for you to work with companies that produce items such as pillows, blankets, posters, etc.
Along with the digital image, you can also request (for an additional fee) up to two printed 8-1/2″ x 11″ printed images. You have a choice between one with a plain color background and/or one with the pet’s name or a phrase that you identify with your pet (one of each style or two of the same style). These images are printed on a professional Epson printer using archival quality Epson Ultrachrome inks. With proper care, these images will last for many years. The background color is chosen based on the colors within the actual pet portrait.
Each digital image is copyrighted and owned by me. However, you are given the right to use the digital image for your personal use as often and on any medium you choose. The only limitation is you cannot reproduce the digital image in part or in whole to make money for yourself – either by selling the image or selling items with the image on them. However, if you would like to use the digital image as part of a fundraising event, please reach out to me to discuss and I will be happy to provide a limited copyright usage for that specific purpose.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
A lot depends on the clarity and resolution of the photos you send, your responses to the questionnaire, and how quickly you respond to any questions. You can ask for specific kinds of personalization and we can correspond to come to a mutual decision about any additional cost and timing with those features added. On average, however, a standard head-only portrait takes about 5-7 days. A full-body portrait may take longer.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Click on the Pet Portrait Questionnaire link at the bottom of this page. Answer the questions and submit the completed form. Once I receive that information and review, I will send you a link where you will upload your photographs. The BEST photographs are ones in which the pet is facing the camera. There should be good lighting and it is essential that the photos be as high resolution as possible in order for me to size them up to see the details of their fur, feathers, eyes, etc. It is helpful to have at least two or three good photos. We will correspond about any questions that I have, I will send you the final quote and payment is due upon receipt before I begin drawing. Once payment is received, you will receive regular updates.
Once your drawing is complete, I will send you a version you can review to make sure you are happy with the output. Nominal “tweaks” are possible but it is very important to realize that digital drawings are artistic works and that the artist’s style is part of the overall vision and process. Please be sure to look at the photos of my work before starting the ordering process to be sure that my style fits with your vision for your pet portrait.
There are no refunds or exchanges once the digital work begins. I love doing pet portraits and always strive to give my customers a very positive experience. I look forward to working with you to create a lovely image of your sweet pet that you can cherish for many years to come. Please click the image/link below to start your portrait questionnaire.
